Tools for Drug ScreeningStem cell therapeutics and, more specifically, the use of differentiated cell populations in clinical treatment, is growing and rapidly becoming the medical modality of the future. As part of our clinical development programs, CSC has discovered methods to manufacture high purity, differentiated stem cells in virtually unlimited quantities using our own proprietary media and hESC lines. CSC's hESC-derived human motor neurons, neurons and cardiomyocytes are >95% pure. The remaining non-target cells in our final populations are fully defined. As a result of our lengthy differentiation protocol and resulting high purity final formulations, there are 0% undifferentiated hESCs in our final population. CSC will primarily develop and supply differentiated human stem cells to be used for cell-based therapeutics and experimental research. Using our high-purity cell populations we have developed drug discovery tools, in a 96-well and 384-well plate format, for high throughput screening of therapeutic candidates as well as predictive toxicology. Availability of pure, clinically relevant, fully characterized human cells of specific types, in virtually unlimited quantities and in a format suitable for automated application, promises to increase the speed and efficiency of therapeutic discovery across the industry.
